One-stop border post between Kenya and Tanzania opened

The Taveta-Holili border post.

A one-stop border post between Kenya and Tanzania has been opened – intended to cut border crossing times for trucks by a third, and the distance between Mombasa and Bujumbura by 400 kilometres.

According to The East African, this cut in the time taken to clear goods between the two nations will increase volumes of transhipment cargo through the Port of Mombasa.

The facility at the Taveta-Holili crossing has cost the equivalent of over R183 million (Ksh1.2 billion), and is the first of 15 border facilities under construction across the East African Community (EAC) bloc and South Sudan.
