On-time delivery demands close co-operation

KEVIN MAYHEW TO MEET the delivery demands of importers at this year end will require close co-operation between clients and consolidators to try to avoid many potential blockages and delays in the logistics chain. The managing director of Johannesburg-based Cargocare, Roland Raath, said that life was a little easier for exporters at this time as there was generally a surplus of airfreight space. “However, for importers using airfreight express it is a squeeze as we enter peak season. Meeting on-time delivery calls for carefully planned consolidations to enable smooth planning for clients,” he said. He added that successful consolidation at this time meant using only top class airlines with a proven track record and pro-active efforts to keep clients informed of factors impacting on cargo movements. “We inform them via newsletters about congested routes and other potential pitfalls,” he said.
