VETERAN SHIPPING personality Chris Cooke (69) died last Thursday (January 10) after battling emphysema for many years. Highly respected in shipping circles for his knowledge and expertise, he started his working life with the SA Navy later joining Mitchell Cotts Ship’s Agency and moving to Freightmarine where he headed up the K Line service. He was well known for his participation in the Safari service negotiations at the time. He was working parttime for CMA-CGM until his health deteriorated last year. His natural sincerity and good humour were trademark characteristics, long-time colleague Rod Eaton told FTW. He leaves his wife, a son and daughter and three grandchildren.
