The storm dubbed ‘St Jude’ which hit the east coast of the United Kingdom yesterday and continued on to Europe left a trail of destruction in its wake, disrupting several seaport and airport operations.
Fifty flights were cancelled at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and vessels were delayed at the Port of Rotterdam, reports Reuters news agency. Meanwhile Port Strategy noted that 130 flights were cancelled at Heathrow and the Port of Dover was shut down but news reports indicate no major damage at any of the ports in the path of the storm
Winds of up to 160 kilometres per hour felled trees and led to the cancellation of rail services and the closure of roads, while tens of thousands of homes were left without power.
