IT’S ALL about encouraging productivity in the container handling business, which is why MACS handed its ‘Empty Depot Award’ for quality service to SACD, Johannesburg. The award was introduced last year with Rennies, now Bidports, taking home the first prize. “We were trying to find some way to get the privately-operated depots to lift their performance,” said Sylvia Johnston, Cape Townbased logistics manager for MACS. “Everyone criticises them and they are always the brunt of all problems to do with packing containers. “We are quite happy to say we have noticed a better response from all the depots we use, however SACD came out on top. “They turn boxes around quickly and communicate well so I keep my clients happy.”
