NileDutch has upgraded frequency on its South Africa- West Africa service from fortnightly to weekly and increased its capacity to 11 ships on the route. Chief operating officer of NileDutch based in Singapore, Jan-Willem de Braal, told FTW last week at the company’s annual cocktail event in Johannesburg that the ships would carry 2 800-3 500 TEUs. “2012 was a good growth year in South Africa,” he said, “and we wanted to improve our product offering by increasing frequency and capacity. We are confident that there will be continued growth in 2013,” said de Braal, an assessment echoed by director of NileDutch South Africa, Sharl Parsad, who is equally upbeat about cargo volumes on the route in the year ahead.
