Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG) plans to invest US$1.5 billion in a Nigeria-based shipyard capable of accommodating large crude carriers, reports news agency, Reuters.
World Maritime News reports that the world’s eighth-largest crude producer currently does not have a dry dock capable of maintaining and fixing large crude tankers. The news sites reported NLNG spokesperson Tony Okonedo as saying that currently, large carriers sailing to and from Nigeria had to go to South Africa for dry docking.
The construction of the facility is expected to take up to four years and will start once the funding is secured, Okonedo reportedly said.
