South African Airways (SAA) last Friday confirmed the appointment of Monwabisi Kalawe as CEO, taking over from acting CEO Nico Bezuidenhout. He holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of KwaZulu- Natal and an MBA in strategy and operations from the University of Cape Town. While he has no airline experience, his CV includes six years’ with Airports Company SA as GM – CT International Airport. His career has included senior positions with food services company Compass Group and Denel Munitions where he was the CEO.
