THE NEW access road leading from the main N4 South Africa/Maputo highway into the redeveloped harbour in Mozambique’s capital is set for completion in mid-July.
“It will register one of the biggest gains environmentally in Maputo’s history,” says Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) marketing director Dick Moore. “The continuous line of heavy trucks which now have to pass through the city before entering the port will have a new route to follow.
“They will miss the city entirely, and the city will certainly not miss the exhaust fumes which have been a daily problem.
“It will also mean faster arrival times at
the port without trucks having to compete with the on-going traffic build-up which central Maputo has been experiencing in recent years.”
