Just months since taking
delivery of 75 new reefer
containers, DAL is already
exchanging new ideas with
the manufacturers, Maersk
Container Industry
Qingdao, to be integrated
into the next fleet.
The recently delivered
containers are the first
with an integrated
Starcool machine,
according to Siegfried
Kuchar, who was one of
the team that oversaw the
construction of the units at
the production line.
“Traditionally the box
and reefer unit were
produced as two separate
pieces which were
eventually connected with
bolts and nuts at the end
of the production line,” he
explained.
“With the new
technology, the reefer
machine frame is
integrated in the unit and
therefore becomes an
integral part of it.”
And this, he explained,
brings several advantages
– a stronger container
framework, reduced heat
and air leakage because
of better insulation, and
a significantly lighter
container tare weight.
In addition, the Starcool
machine adds several
environmental benefits
in terms of energy
efficiency.
