WITH THE appointment of Mark Green as the new MD of Bridge Shipping, there is no change in the company’s niche marketing principle, just an on-going expansion of its business, Green told FTW. “The core business of Bridge Shipping remains as it has been since the company was first founded 28-years ago,” he said. “We have a focus on exports from the southern African region through the Bridge group’s facilities in SA which allows us to concentrate on the needs of each individual customer. “The company has its own established offices, global networks and agencies, all of which aid in our complete supply chain solution – from origin to final destination. My main aim is to develop this forwarding business across the southern African region.” SA-based Bridge Shipping currently has an office and depot/warehousing network throughout Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, and is represented in Mozambique. “Our particular specialities are in the movement of tobacco and cotton from Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi and metals and minerals from Zambia – generally all being routed via the Bridgeport warehousing and depot facilities in Johannesburg and Durban,” Green added. No newcomer to Bridge Shipping, Green has a complete understanding of the company structure and philosophy. “I started my career in the shipping industry in 1976 in London, and from 1986 to 1990 was with MSC in SA,” he told FTW. “I then joined Bridge Shipping and was based in SA until 1994 and then transferred to the Zimbabwe office until 1999.” In 1999, Green left the Bridge Group and established his own successful business which has now been sold. He rejoined Bridge Shipping in May this year in the MD’s chair.
