New man heads up MOL in Durban

Terry Hutson MITSUI OSK Line (MOL) has a new man at the helm in Durban. He is Rhett van Zyl, formerly of SA Stevedores and more recently manager of the National Dock Labour Scheme (NDLS). Van Zyl took up his role as regional manager for MOL KZN at the end of April, replacing former regional manager Alec Hill who will transfer to Cape Town as national sales manager. Van Zyl told FTW that the last two years with the NDLS where he was deeply involved in managing labour relations in the port were very stressful times. A period not made easier by several strikes that all but closed the port on one occasion. He said he welcomed the opportunity to get back into shipping and was looking forward to the further growth opportunities. "We have some exciting developments on the horizon which will shortly be announced and it is good to be part of such a progressive company." Van Zyl sees his role as developing a strategic management team to help further these developments in the KZN region. "We need to ensure that skill levels are there to promote our future growth; which is where I see my role," he told FTW.
