New head for NLA

Harald Schmidt succeeded Francois Uys as secretary general of the Namibian Logistics Association (NLA) on May 1. Uys, who was responsible for setting up the organisation, will remain available for specific technical assignments while continuing to help family-owned transport businesses make the transition from one generation to the next. Schmidt, who is “Namibian born and bred,” is also founder of Promex, a consultancy that provides secretarial services to the Namibian fuel industry. He says the two industries share common interests in the form of regulations, legislation, infrastructure and logistics challenges and opportunities. Schmidt, who has a degree in economics from Stellenbosch University, has extensive experience in working with and within government structures and the transport industry. He was on the board of the Road Fund Administration for nine years and served on the Transportation Commission for 12 years. He established Promex (Promotion of Excellence) in 1994, and the company was awarded the tender as the fuel industry secretariat in 2003.
