A new warehouse for frozen food
imports and exports will help
Walvis Bay strengthen its position
as the gateway for the SADC region,
according to Stefne Lintvelt,
managing director of Camel Thorn
Freight Forwarders.
Formed five years ago, the
clearing agency and freight
forwarder specialises in the
importation and distribution of
“high risk, high value cargo such as
frozen fish, chicken, seafood, beef
and pork.
“There is a shortage of
refrigerated storage space for landed
cargo in Walvis Bay at present. The
opening of the modern warehouse
will create new opportunities for
importers and exporters,” she says.
Camel Thorn is able to provide a
door-to-door service from Walvis
Bay to destinations throughout
the SADC region using “trusted
suppliers” in road, rail and
airfreight.
Namibia’s market is small and
is well served, which means that
Namibian freight forwarders have
to be able to provide support for
shipments throughout the SADC
region, she says.
Atlantic Commercial Cold Store
will be able to store 8 000 pallets,
with a third of the warehouse
allocated for bonded goods.
Purpose-built from the ground up
it incorporates the latest insulation
and refrigeration technologies,
with focus on making the facility as
“green” and efficient as possible.
The new facility is expected to
be fully operational by end of May
2017.
