South African company Reddy Logistics is boosting the logistics infrastructure and capacity of Ndola through the building of a warehousing and fuel depot complex that could cover nearly 23 hectares of land in the town’s industrial area. The decision to invest in Zambia was sparked by a request from the company’s biggest client to provide warehousing in Ndola, says Moses Funiro, the country manager for Reddy Logistics Zambia. It will complement Reddy’s 14 000-sqm warehouse in Johannesburg and 10 000-sqm facility in Durban, he says. “The facility will be a repeat of the full range of services we offer in Johannesburg,” he says. Ground has already been broken on the site, which is situated close to the Ndola International Airport. “We will be up and running by the end of this year,” says Funiro. Reddy has had a presence in Zambia since 2010, with an office in Lusaka. Ndola was chosen because it is at the crossroads of cargo f lowing through the sub-region. The complex will be developed into a regional transport hub providing refuelling facilities as well as accommodation for drivers. “Trucks from the DRC will be able to offload here and load up again for the back haul,” he says. Reddy Logistics already has transport networks in place to move cargo from Walvis Bay, Durban, Beira and Dar es Salaam to all destinations on the Copperbelt, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). “We have offices in Walvis Bay and a presence in Dar es Salaam through an associate company,” he says. Future plans include expanding its Zambia-registered fleet in order to provide the full range of logistics services to clients operating in the Copperbelt.
