New cold chain facility on track

Kevin Mayhew LUSAKA IS going to get its second cold chain handling facility, according to the general manager of Hill + Delamain Zambia, Hiten Bhagat. Bhagat says the new facility will enable his company, which is mainly an air freight service provider, to facilitate more perishable cargo movement by air and other means as the local agricultural sector increases its capacity. “The logistics demands of the future will be for greater handling capacity of new types of cargo. Already there is a demand for items such as flowers which require special transport facilities by air,” he explained. Bhagat says that there is no doubt that traffic volumes will be favourably impacted by the opening of new corridors and believes both Dar-Es-Salam and Walvis Bay are providing an all important advantage – shorter transit times. Referring to the general economy, he says that Zambia has had a good year after two which were difficult and he attributes this to the government’s handling of the economy.
