THERE IS a new force in marine, road and rail surveying and assessing, with the launch of Transit Cargo Surveyors and Assessors based in Kloof. Founder Mike Webber believes there is a need for independence in this area of cargo handling and shipping as the industry has become increasingly more dynamic with potentially costly risks that need to be constantly monitored and catered for. “People tend to place too little emphasis on this as it is not really in their headspace as they go about the business of moving goods and getting them to destinations on time. Mistakes and oversights can sink a business,” he explains. Operating since February this year, the company provides an independent and impartial surveying, assessing and consultancy service to its clients on a daily basis, says Webber who worked for a number of Durban-based surveying companies over the past 11 years before setting up the operation. A chartered ship broker, he specialised in tanker and dry cargo chartering, Law of Carriage of Goods by Sea, and all aspects of marine insurance.
