Shippers using the Namibian corridors could soon benefit from the efficiencies provided by rail thanks to a partnership between Imperial and the state-run TransNamib railway company.“We see TransNamib as a strategic partner to develop cost-effective and sustainable solutions to suitable customers,” says Imperial’s Markus van der Merwe. The new container terminal in Walvis Bay is running efficiently and can handle large volumes of imports bound for the two metros and neighbouring countries, which will provide the necessary load balance for both rail and road.“We have successfully built a solution for one of our long-standing clients, making use of intermodal logistics, utilising rail from Walvis Bay to Windhoek and road transport from Windhoek to neighbouring countries,” Van der Merwe says.Several similar solutions are in the pipeline for the strategic partnership between Imperial and TransNamib, he adds.
