Namibian airport expansion terminated amid irregularities

Expansion on the Hosea Kutako Airport has been terminated.

The Namibian president, Hage Geingob, has terminated the deal to expand the Hosea Kutako Airport due to incorrect tender procedures.

The expansion, valued at about R7 billion, was awarded to Chinese-owned firm Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Corporation by the Namibia Airports Company.

Geingob commented in a press statement that a formal tender process had not been undertaken. “Subsequently complaints have been aired through legal practitioners to the Minister of Works and Transport, seeking redress,” he said.
