The Namibian government has lifted all restrictions on the import and export of goods, with the country entering Stage 2 of lockdown regulations.

A statement sent to transporters by Salom Katoole, chief economist and personal assistant to the minister of industry trade and development, reads: “I hereby kindly notify you that the Namibian Government has ceased issuing traders with Essential Services Certificates as per the Government Gazette and Stage 2: State of Emergency - Covid-19 Regulations dated 04 May 2020.

“This is because the country has suspended the lockdown and business activities have resumed as usual while maintaining safety measures in place against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade is therefore urging you to seek assistance from your suppliers to provide you with goods as per usual because trading activities have resumed in Namibia.

“Also please note that the Namibian borders are open for all imports and exports of goods.”

There is no restriction on domestic travel.

Namibia, which implemented early screening at all border posts, has had 16 confirmed Covid-19 cases, with no deaths.
