N3 and N5 safe following municipal intervention

Safety on the N3 and N5 highways in the south-eastern Free State province had been restored, warrant officer Mmako Mophiring from Harrismith police confirmed this morning.

He said intervention at municipal level had led to an amicable resolution between service delivery protesters and the relevant arms of local authority.

This follows several days of violent protest that disrupted traffic and led to the death of a truck driver after the 35-year-old employee of a Clanwilliam transporter lost control of his rig in a stone-throwing incident.

Travellers are nevertheless advised to use the N5 as it approaches Harrismith, and the N3 in the same vicinity, with extreme caution.
