Project work in Mozambique is on the increase, says Mahaveerprasad Chavda, CEO of Chavda & Associates. With a lot of mining interest in the country opportunities are endless – especially when it comes to project cargo. “There is a lot of construction that is starting as a result of the various developments taking place.” According to Chavda the main challenge around project cargo however still remains the arranging of the necessary machinery, vehicles and handling equipment pertaining to the type of cargo being transported. “More often than not very specialised equipment is necessary as well as very particular skills and knowledge, while experience goes a long way.” He believes prepping for a job is therefore of utmost importance as it ensures that everything is put into place, necessary vehicles are arranged, required machinery is already on standby so one is assured of smooth and hassle-free transportation. He says it is important that South Africans develop their skills and ensure they are in a position to meet the required needs of project cargo as the sector is growing steadily, not just in Mozambique but also in southern Africa as a whole. “There is a lot of development with new airports, roads, railways and seaports being built and upgraded.”
