THE ABOLITION of visas for SA and Mozambican visitors for trips of less than 30 days is boosting border traffic. Record numbers of visitors crossed the Lebombo/Ressano Garcia border post over the April festive season, said Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative (MCLI) CEO, Brenda Horne. In April, 2 005 165 957 people crossed the border compared to 381 560 this April, a 130% increase. The April 2 007 total was also up 34% over the 2006 figure of 2 84 351. The government has committed R200-million towards this becoming a onestop border post – led by the BCOCC (Border Control Operational Coordinating Committee) and chaired by SA Revenue Service (Sars).
