New feeder launched,
writes Alan Peat

WITH THE launch of a second inter-West Africa feeder loop, Mitsui OSK Line (MOL) is able to offer an even more comprehensive service in the region to SA shippers and importers, according to Andrew Weiss, national sales and marketing assistant manager.
In the past, any transhipments at Abidjan had to go on other carriers, he said.
With this new service we achieve our own control along the route.
The new string complements MOL's current service in the West African coastal region - and the carrier has deployed a 320 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) vessel to ply the route on a 12-day frequency.
Port rotation is: Abidjan; Lagos; Douala; Takoradi (Ghana); Abidjan.
There is, though, an element of flexibility in the service rotation, according to Weiss.
Where some of the other ports need not be called on, he told FTW, the service can call at Cape Town for movements to-and-from West Africa.
This adds other links to MOL's overall South Africa/West Africa service with the main-line West Africa string offering a rotation of: Shanghai; Pusan; Keelung; Hong Kong; Singapore; Durban; Luanda; Lagos; Cotonou; Lome; Tema; Abidjan; Cape Town; Durban; Port Louis; Colombo; Singapore; and Shanghai.
According to Weiss, this new service is part of MOL's overall plan for the West African region - and further expansion can be expected.
