IN RESPONSE to the demands of importers and exporters, Mitsui OSK Line has upgraded frequency on its Super Express Service between Shanghai, the Indian Ocean Islands, South and West Africa.
Effective from June 27 the line will upgrade its 10-day service to a weekly frequency from Shanghai to Durban and from Durban to West Africa.
From West Africa two vessels will call Cape Town, Port Louis, Colombo and Shanghai, with an optional Durban call.
The other two vessels will call Durban only, proceeding to Port Louis, Colombo and Shanghai.
This is a dramatic upgrade of our previous service which operated to Durban every 10 days and Cape Town every 20 days, g.m. of agents Ellerman & Bucknall, Martin Dukhi, told FTW.
Congestion in Durban, coupled with the logistical problems of phasing in the new vessel schedule, have restricted Durban calls over the past six weeks, says Dukhi. But with the sailing of the Oceanic Challenger 4001 on June 27, the weekly frequency will slot into place.
The four-vessel fleet includes the Oceanic, Atlantic, Meridian and Tropical Challengers, each with capacity for around 1200 teus.
The service is operated in conjunction with P&O Nedlloyd.
