MOL begins bullet train project

THE MOVEMENT of 360 bullet train railroad cars from Japan to Taiwan over the next few months is big business for Mitsui OSK Lines, which begins the project next month. The schedule will run from May 2004 to September 2005, involving 30 voyages with one train of 12 railroad cars per voyage. The lead car of each bullet train is 27m long; the remaining cars measure 25m. MOL will use long-hatch “tween-deckers” with 150-ton lifting capacity to move the cargo.
