Companies in South Africa

need to invest in mobile

sites rather than websites.

Senior industry head for

Google, David Gibbons,

said mobile had come

a long way in South

Africa. “In 2014 already

smartphone queries for

Google had exceeded

Google desktop searches in

South Africa.”

He pointed to recent

statistics highlighting

that the next ten million

South Africans accessing

the Internet for the first

time will do so without

ever touching a laptop or

desktop to do it.

“The average client uses

mobile a minimum of 150

times a day to access the

Internet compared to only

six average phone calls a

day,” said Gibbons.

He said it was commonly

accepted that the next

adaption would be through

wearable technology such

as smart watches which

would increase significantly

in the next two years.
