Systems and information have fast become critical elements in the perishables logistics supply chain, but too often they are not being used to maximum potential.
“If you do not embrace the advantages of what systems and information can do for your business, you will not be able to reduce overheads,” says Stephan Knott, executive information technology at GoReefers, part of the GoGlobal group of companies.
But despite the increased focus on information and technology within the sector, there are still some big challenges to overcome, he adds.
“The flow of information is often still manual and access to information often takes too long to obtain, which means it is too late to use it proactively in the business.” Derick Robertson, executive sales and marketing at GoReefers, says innovation will play an increasingly important role in the future, as the current status quo will be challenged.
“We have integrated our operational IT system with a mobile application which can be accessed on any Android, iOS or Windows platform giving our clients access to a range of information and data regardless of where they are,” he says.
