MITCHELL COTTS branches throughout the country have been appointed to act on behalf of the Angola National Shippers' Council to issue special documents for cargo consigned to ports in that country.
The Angolan government recently clamped down heavily on errant importers in this respect, insisting that all cargoes destined for Angola require an import licence and every bill of lading must be accompanied by a loading certificate.
Fines of $5000 (R25000) per incident plus 100% of all taxes will be imposed on shippers not complying with these regulations.
A circular which the Shippers' Council has sent to all shippers using its ports states that legislation passed in 1994 calling for accurate information with respect to cargo flow to and from the country is now to be enforced in full.
