BUREAU VERITAS Quality International (BVQI) has been particularly active in the import, export and freight forwarding sectors, both locally and internationally, offering fully independent, accredited certification to the industry.
Established in 1988, this sector of the Bureau Veritas group has grown to be one of the world leaders in systems certification, offering not only certification to the ISO 9000 series of standards but also to ISO 14001 and many other specialised certification standards.
These include QS 9000 (automotive), AS 9000 (aerospace), and ISM (marine). BVQI holds accreditations from 14 of the world's key accreditation bodies such as UKAS (UK), RAB (US), RvA (Netherlands) and Confrac (France).
Some of its clients include AEI, Kuehne and Nagel, Macs Maritime, Grindrod Seafreight, Grindrod Airfreight, Cargo Connection and Safert Keeley.
Airlines that have certification links with BVQI are Asiana Airlines, Thai International and Sabena. Several South African clients in the import, export and freight forwarding sectors have selected BVQI as their certification body and are progressing towards certification.
Particularly competitive for the smaller companies is the option offered by the 'Small Firms Scheme'. Despite the fact that it has some of the world's largest multi-nationals as clients, it is able to cater for the smaller company and has among its clients companies employing as few as three people.
BVQI has certified more than 16 000 companies to ISO 9 000. These companies collectively hold more than 25 000 certificates, while certificates for ISO 14000 are currently held by 350 BVQI clients globally.
