REMEMBER THE black students' scholarships to Sweden? Earlier this year FTW featured several reports that the Maritime Education and Training Board, Cargo Handling (METB-CH) had secured several scholarships to the World Maritime University (WMU) at Malmo in Sweden and was seeking applicants from among suitable young black students (FTW 20 February 1998).
Although the initial response was both surprising and disappointing, a number of suitable applicants have since come forward. According to the METB-CH's Brad Jacklin these applications have been lodged with WMU.
Two students will be selected in about six weeks time, he told FTW.
The courses they will undertake are designed to equip them with specialist knowledge and skills, capable of taking them into senior positions involving administration and policy advice work.
