THE MARITIME Institute has franchised its Cape Town operation to Jimmy Merrington, a ships agency specialist formally of Kien Hung Shipping.
Merrington has been involved in international ships agency since 1974 and has been a lecturer with the Maritime Institute since 1987 heading up the ships agency division.
CEO Peter Fitt said the move was made to ensure that one year students attending the college could complete their allotted 1400 hours of notional learning in keeping with SAQA guidelines. The training institution's Durban head office continues to issue certificates and monitor the quality of the provider, he said. Contrary to rumours circulating in Cape Town this branch will continue to carry out its commitments to its students.
