Dredging of the Maputo
port approach channel
from 11 to 14 metres chart
datum has been completed,
which means that the
harbour can now handle
Capesize bulk vessels and
newer generation container
ships.
Speaking in Maputo
at a ceremony to mark
the official completion
of the dredging last
week, transport and
communication minister
Carlos Mesquita said:
“Mozambique should
capitalise on its strategic
geographic position.
“It is important that we all
work together to improve the
competitive advantages that
the logistics system can offer
to the users of the Maputo
Corridor.
“The players in the
logistics chain – although
they are distinct entities
– should work towards a
single objective: to make the
port of Maputo the choice
for the export of cargo from
Mozambique, South Africa,
Swaziland, Zimbabwe and
Botswana,” he said.
