Pampered pooches, parrots and other live animals are often taken on holiday by Airlink Cargo. “We have lots of regular customers who take their pets along when visiting their holiday homes in the Eastern Cape and other areas in the country,” says Alwyn Rautenbach. In addition there are also a number of breeders who use their services to carry the precious cargo to their new homes. The hold in every airplane is part of the cabin so it is pressurised, ventilated and heated in order to make the furry and feathered passengers as comfortable as their human counterparts. “There is a special rate for live animals as they need special attention,” says Rautenbach. It is therefore a little more expensive than Airlink Cargo’s express freight service for non-breathing cargo to East London, Port Elizabeth and George from or via all the major cities in South Africa.
