Targeting freight from Zambia,
Malawi and Zimbabwe
KEVIN MAYHEW
IN ONE of a number of developments, Manica Freight Services (MOC) SARL is expanding warehouse space in Beira to target freight to and from Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe, according to the managing director, A Y Chothia. Specific products will include tea, tobacco, fertilizer and grain. He said they were also benefiting from increased ferro-alloy movements from Zimbabwe through Maputo. “General freight is down but certain items such as granite are showing positive movement into the European market and there appears to be a new market opening for it in Japan,” he said. The ban on Zimbabwean asbestos movement through South Africa introduced last year also provided a boost for Maputo, he said.
