The R487-million project to upgrade a section of the N1 between Plattekloof Road and Old Oak Interchange is expected to be completed early in May this year, according to Byron la Hoe, communications officer at the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public works.
He said the current detour through the Old Oak Road southbound carriageway and temporary re-laning through the Old Oak Road/ Eversdal Way intersection would remain in place for the time being.
“By the end of January, the temporary cross-over on the median island of Old Oak Road will be removed, the Old Oak West bridge reopened, and both carriageways opened to traffic. Reopening the bridge will enable the scaffolding in the N1 median to be taken away so that work on the median island can be completed,” said La Hoe.
