NOMPELO NDZIMELA SOUTH AFRICA’S maize production figures will fall short of last year’s 9.3mt with a projected estimate of 7.6 mt, according to information released to FTW by the South African Grain Information Services. According to a United Nations food security report, SA’s exportable surplus will be sufficient to cover the import requirements of Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho, while meeting the needs of other neighbouring states.
