Maersk Line on Tuesday signed a US$1.8 billion contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for 11 second generation Triple-E container vessels – with an option for six additional vessels.
With a capacity of 19 630 TEUs each, they are larger than the first 20 Triple-E containerships, which have an 18 270 TEU capacity.
Ordered to replace smaller, less efficient ships in the fleet, the new vessels are intended to enter the Asia-Europe trade between April 2017 and May 2018. They will sail under Danish flag.
The vessels will have a length of approximately 400 metres, width of 58.6m, and a 16.5m draft.
