MACHINE MOVING and rigging company Lovemore Bros has now opened a third warehousing facility, a 40 ton handling centre situated in the New Germany area of Pinetown, regarded as the heart of manufacturing in the Durban region. This 30 000 cu/m closed-in warehouse boasts a 40 ton overhead crane with movements of 16.5m below the hook, which allows for stacking of five containers. Massive roller doors 13m wide and 8m high open onto five docking bays which push undercover for 17m. All handling is therefore under cover. Heavy and bulky equipment can be safely and securely packed or unpacked or placed in storage. Crating is another fast growing service provided within the warehousing operation. Purpose-built crates for the export and local distribution of equipment is a service offered to clients seeking a one-stop solution. Storage of expensive and delicate tanks, up to 16m in height (equivalent of a five-storey building), is handled comfortably with the tanks stored upright under cover as well. All operations within the facility are controlled and recorded by management and information software. "A large crane truck fleet and rigging crews provide the balance of this logistical picture," says director Rob Lovemore. "Progressive players in the shipping and manufacturing industries today demand this kind of set up."
