The final of the Service Provider Category at the recent Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry-hosted Exporter of Year 2016 ceremony was a true David and Goliath battle.
Putting up a fight against the two heavyweights - Mediterranean Shipping Company (the eventual winner) and Rohlig Grindrod - was the little-known entity, Saltrans Logistics.
This company was established in 2011 by entrepreneur Rajen Sanker, who then brought Vernon Naidu on board as his chosen partner – and was eventually joined by Sanker’s son, Shivan Sanker (now MD), and Vis Pillay.
“Our vision,” said Sanker snr, “is to provide a one-stop logistics solution to existing and, more importantly, to incumbent exporters and importers. Our aim is to efficiently and easily bridge the gap between the supplier and the receiver.”
And, indeed, this successful path to the top was acknowledged when Saltrans Logistics was chosen as one of the Top 3 finalists in the Service Provider Category alongside those other two giants in the shipping industry.
