Logistics major reveals expansion plans

Rhenus Logistics South Africa will ring in the New Year with expanded warehousing capability in KwaZulu-Natal and the opening of a new branch in Gauteng.

In addition to plans to extend its local footprint, the freight forwarder said: “The Rhenus Group will be looking to expand its African network by 2025 through new partnerships and acquisitions.”

Since starting as WACO in Johannesburg in 1996, rebranding as World Net Logistics in 2002, and its acquisition by the Rhenus Group in Germany, the company has chalked up several milestones along the way.

Over the past ten years it has doubled the number of TEUs it has handled.

Growth in human capital has also underscored the company’s upward trajectory.

According to its managing director, Dirk Goedhart, 140 new positions have been created since 2019, while 160 employees and unemployed youth have been supported with learnerships relevant to the industry.

“We are proud to support our youth by offering experience and training at Rhenus,” he said.

The announcement of these developments comes as the company celebrates its 25th anniversary.
