Exports of oranges from South Africa to China, the biggest offset market for local fruit, has suffered this season from the amount and resulting price pressure of Egyptian oranges still entering markets, it has been reported.
According to a well-known Dutch fresh produce portal, “Egyptian oranges had a direct impact on the sales volume and the price of South African oranges”.
However, with the end of Egypt’s exporting season in sight, it’s expected that the price and sales volume of South African oranges will gradually recover.
For the time being though, orange exports to China are still dominated by Peru.
