Lloydafrica is the new agent, writes Anna Cox
LLOYD TRIESTINO will continue its slot charter agreement with Mediterranean Shipping Company which has worked to the benefit of both principals, and will maintain and consolidate its current position in South Africa.
That's the word from business department manager responsible for Africa, Captain Fabio Marcolin, who was in South Africa recently.
In the short term, there will be no substantial modifications to the service. If the opportunity arises, LT will employ its own tonnage but only if it is compatible with the current agreement of its present partner, he said.
Lloydafrica Shipping, with offices in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town was recently appointed the new agent in South Africa for LT. The line intends to increase its fleet and further develop its presence on more shipping routes, Marcolin added.
He said the agreement with
previous agent Combine Ocean was terminated without any animosity and LT was satisfied with the professional services offered by them.
The agency change was in line with company policy of consolidating the number of agencies with a direct link to LT, he said.
I am sure we will be seeing more presence of LT in other areas in years to come, Captain JJ Chen, managing director of Lloydafrica, said.
