Importers and exporters of

liquid bulk are being given the

opportunity to invest in their

own facilities in the port of

Walvis Bay.

Civil work on a new multipurpose

liquid bulk terminal

for the port of Walvis Bay is

around 65% complete on the

land-side, with the channel and

turning basin already dredged

out for 60 000-ton tankers,

according to Namibian Port

Authority (Namport) port

engineer Elzevir Gelderbloem.

In the first phase the

terminal will make use of

existing tank storage facilities

in the town of Walvis Bay, but a

large parcel of 100 hectares of

land close to the landing point

has been identified for private

investors inside the new port

area, he says.

A pipeline, or multiple

pipelines, will be installed to

connect the terminal to the

tank farm.

There are also plans to have a

rail link to the tank farm.
