FINDING A shipping line to carry its special type of containers and flat racks to South America has proved so difficult for Durban manufacturing concern Sugar Equip, that managing director Bryan Bailey has turned to FTW in the hope of finding a solution.
"We are manufacturers of equipment for the sugar industry where the requirements are often out of gauge in both height and length, which makes the lines reluctant to carry them," he says.
"We are having extreme difficulty in locating someone who can move among others 6m general purpose (GP) and open top (OT) containers and a 12m flat rack which will contain a 3.2m diameter drum which is 12.2m long. These weigh around 36 tons.
"The flat rack in these dimensions is out of gauge, side, length and top. I have contacted Mitsui, Maersk, Safmarine and United Ships Agency from the FTW Easifinder, all of which cannot accommodate the 12m flat rack. Is there any company out there who can assist?"
Bailey can be reached on 031-201-0281.
