Leonard Neill EXPANSION WORK on the Kusasa bulk terminal at Richards Bay was completed this month. This was well in advance of the expected arrival of the first consignment of refined titanium slag from Ticor South Africa's new furnace at Hillendale, which will take up all the additional capacity the R54 million expansion allows. The existing terminal, which opened for operation in October last year and was built at a cost of R60 million, is used exclusively by Ticor, formerly Iscor Heavy Minerals. It handles rutile, zircon, ilmenite and leucoxene for the export market. The expansion project was aimed for completion before Ticor's new furnace was up and running. The smelter is expected to be completed by December, but will require at least six weeks 'fine running' before it will supply export material.
