Levies on perishable exports take effect

ALAN PEAT A SERIES of levies has been imposed by the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB) on perishable products exported from SA. Dated October 21, the notice detailing the levies was printed in the Government Gazette and included sea levies, container inspection levies and a number of other charges, according to an analysis done by the Southern Africa Trade Law Centre (tralac). Amongst the affected products are avocados, canned products, citrus fruit, concentrates, dairy products, dried fruits and grapes. These levies were effective from November 1 until further notice.
