LETTER

With reference to the article published in last week’s issue of FTW dated 13 June (Shippers win battle over cargo dues penalties), The South African Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff) would like to comment as follows: It is unfortunate that this article was published prematurely as we were specifically requested by our attorneys that this matter was sub judice and as such not to make any announcements until such time as the office of the Ports Regulator had acknowledged that a settlement had been reached between Saaff and TNPA. Saaff is however pleased to advise that our attorneys received correspondence yesterday (12 June) from the office of the Ports Regulator confirming that they will cease their investigation into this matter. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our vice chairperson Mike Walwyn, our ports and maritime consultant Dave Watts, Clifford Evans formerly of Ceva Logistics and our legal adviser William Fullard, for their determined persistence in this matter over the past three years without which this agreement would not have been reached. – David Logan, Saaff.
