BEE works – embrace it! I refer to the article “Shipping lines and agents face BEE conundrum” (FTW June 16, 2006). BEE is one of the mechanisms which Government is using to address the demographic imbalances of a very one-sided business environment, typical of the ‘Old South Africa’. No one said it was going to be easy to integrate previously disadvantaged (and uneducated....!)race groups into our industry. However, for those who have embraced the idea and who have taken the trouble to train staff who ultimately turned into top class management, there are the rewards of being eligible to serve government departments and big business with ‘scorecard’ requirements. I have written this letter as proof that the BEE initiative does work, and am extremely proud to state publicly that the present owners and management (who are members of previously disadvantaged race groups) of INTERLOGIX, our customs-licensed and accredited C+F division, have been trained in-house by ourselves, since their schooldays.
