The folowin g email – one of many received from our readers – reflects the majority view: In light of the revelations and accusations flying about, perhaps we should start by asking that all performance bonuses paid to senior Eskom staff over the past five years be repaid. Similarly, we should be insisting that the elected representatives who are responsible for the failure of their portfolios be held accountable. Make it work or face the consequences – no ministerial increases, dismissal from office. For far too long we have allowed our elected political representatives to ignore their mistakes and cling to power, insisting that they are not responsible for the errors of the past. In truth, one cannot really lay the blame much further back than the past five years! I regret I must use the nom-de-plume “Powerless”, but it certainly sums up our current situation and our ability to hold government accountable! 'Powerless'
